What is a fire risk assessment?
A Fire Risk Assessment considers the risk to your business and people in your premises. It highlights the hazards and gives you the information to improve fire safety precautions.
Do I need a written fire risk assessment?
Almost certainly, YES! The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (the ‘Fire Safety Order’) is the principal fire safety legislation to which we must conform. On the 1st October 2023, new legislation was passed stating that all commercial businesses, residential blocks of flats and HMO properties, must have a written fire risk assessment.
Having a written fire risk assessment is now the law – do you comply?
If not, your business is not meeting its legal responsibilities and your insurance may not be invalid.
At Belgrave Fire Management, we are here to help.
Our fire risk assessors are experts and have over 25 years of fire safety experience with the London Fire Brigade and the private sector. As members of the Institute of Fire Safety, our Fire Risk Assessments are fully insured and are approved by our third-party accreditation. We take a measured approach to your business, offering solid advice in the most cost-effective manner. We are here to support you, not cost you money.
Fire Safety Law
If you own, manage or operate a business, you need to comply with fire safety regulations. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 or "The Fire Safety Order" is that regulation - find out more here
What are the penalties for not having a Fire Risk Assessment?
Not having a Fire Risk Assessment and not implementing the required fire safety measures could result in prosecution leading to severe fines, or in cases gross negligence, could result in a prison sentence.
Your Fire Risk Assessment
You will receive a comprehensive risk assessment that will ensure you are legally compliant.
Our fire risk assessments will give you specific advice on the 5 key principles of fire safety:
People at risk
Identifying people who could be at greater risk due to the nature of their work, their location in the building or mobility issues, and the likelihood of that risk.
Identifying fire hazards
Fuel sources and ignition sources such as flammable substances etc.
Evaluation of risks
Advising on appropriate precautionary measures. Areas will include staff training, fire safety provision (alarms, extinguishers, lighting, fire doors), means of escape etc.
Report findings
All findings will be recorded and provide an action plan for cost-effective remedial work if necessary.
Review
It is recommended that a fire risk assessment should be reviewed every 12 months, or every time changes are made to the premises.
